Cover crops can aid producers in organic systems control weeds and add nitrogen to their soil. Precision Sustainable Agriculture, an interdisciplinary research team, has created a Cover Crop Nitrogen Calculator (CC-NCALC) to aid producers in estimating cover crop nitrogen contributions to their fields.

The calculator uses soil characteristics, cover crop species, quality, and termination date, as well as the planting date of their cash crop and target nitrogen rate to estimate total nitrogen demand of the cash crop and how much of this is satisfied by the cover crop.
