  • Tobacco Trust funds Organic Canola and Spelt Project. The Organic Grain Project of NC State University was awarded a $75,000 grant from the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission to demonstrate and research organic canola and spelt production. These two winter annual crops fit well in organic grain rotations and the market for them is growing. This project will provide farmers with research-based information to successfully grow and market organic canola and spelt. If you are interested in more information on this project, or on growing or buying organic spelt or canola in NC, please contact us at: molly_hamilton@ncsu.edu or 828-273-1041.
